Refunds and cancellation
No retention tricks, no phone call to cancel, no small print about it. Here is exactly how stopping works and when money comes back.
Last updated 30 August 2026
01Try it before you pay anything
Every account starts with 7 days of full access and no payment details of any kind. That is deliberately the point at which to decide whether it works for your child. If you do nothing, the trial ends and you are never charged.
02How to cancel
Open the parent dashboard, go to the account section and press cancel. It takes one tap and takes effect immediately — there is no form to fill in, nobody to speak to and no offer screen in the way.
If you cannot get into your account for any reason, email support@buddylingo.app from the address on the account and we will cancel it for you.
03What happens to your access
Cancelling stops the next payment. It does not cut you off on the spot: your child keeps full access until the end of the period you have already paid for, and the subscription then lapses on its own.
Your progress is not deleted when a subscription ends. If you come back and subscribe again, everything your child earned is still there.
04Refunds
Because the free trial lets you evaluate the whole product before paying, we do not routinely refund a period that has already been used. There are exceptions, and we apply them without argument:
- Charged by mistake — a duplicate payment, or a renewal after you had already cancelled: refunded in full.
- The service was substantially broken for a period you paid for and we could not fix it: refunded, in full or pro rata.
- Statutory cooling-off rights. If you are a consumer in a jurisdiction that grants a right to withdraw from a distance contract (14 days in the EU and UK), that right applies and overrides everything above.
- You subscribed within the last 14 days, barely used it and it is not for you. Ask. We would rather refund you than keep money from somebody who did not want the product.
05How to ask for a refund
Email support@buddylingo.app from the address on the account, telling us roughly what happened. We aim to reply within two working days.
Refunds are issued by Dodo Payments, our merchant of record, back to the original payment method. Once approved, the money typically reaches your statement within five to ten working days depending on your bank.
06Failed payments
If a renewal fails — an expired card, a bank decline — we do not close the account immediately. There is a short grace period during which your child keeps working while you update the card, and you will see a notice in the app telling you so.
